Impala Trail

Length – 6.2km

Sites – Rock Waterhole, Kibu Hide, Lone Tree Plain, Ndege Hide, Eland Pan, Old Airstrip and Matamba Plains

This trail takes you past the paddocks and stables, then down towards the hide. The views across to Welgevonden and Marakele are spectacular. The duration of the walk is about one and a half hours.

  1. Start below ablution block and turn right
  2. At junction turn left
  3. Just after the release boma turn right onto a game trail the paddock will be on your left
  4. At road turn left and follow road
  5. Pass between staff housing and small paddocks
  6. Turn right downhill as the paddocks end
  7. At fork keep right and next fork keep left
  8. Junction straight
  9. Cross straight over the cut line
  10. Follow road keeping straight till the hide and waterhole
  11. At the hide turn right
  12. At junction keep right heading up hill
  13. At cross road turn left
  14. Pass the entrance to Mara’s camp
  15. At junction turn right up the hill
  16. Next junction turn right and pass Kibu hide and waterhole
  17. Cross road turn left up the hill and keep straight to T junction
  18. Turn right
  19. At fork keep left to pass the rock waterhole
  20. At the cut line cross straight onto game path and then to the road back to camp
